DetailsJust lovely. A beautiful little antique shovel, some call these tea caddy spoons, with a delightful Dutch figure accenting both the the tip of the handle and the bowl of the spoon. Note as you travel from the scoop to the handle, there is a hand-crafted putti face just above the bowl detail. Within the bowl you'll see gentlemen entertaining and being entertained by a child. Sweet and unique.
I believe this piece to be Italian, due to the styling with the putti, circa 1900. However, the motif elsewhere is Dutch. That's possible, too...
Dimensions: 3 3/4 long; bowl measures 1 1/2" wide

Markings: 800 stamped on the inside of the scoop (There are also obscured markings at the upper left of the ornate bowl.
I have guessed at the age, as this piece is similar to others I own from this period. he piece is stamped 800 but lacks other identifiable marks. However, it is typical of pieces of the Victorian period.
A word of caution...many sellers advertise these pieces as 800 silver when they are silver plate. Be sure that you can see the mark.
Free of dings and dents; no monogram.
Commensurate with age, the condition is very good to excellent.

Since it's solid 800 silver, you don't have to worry about the finish wearing off with use. A simple polish removes any accumulating tarnish. (I prefer Hagerty Silversmith's wash with a tarnish preventative. Avoid using silver dips; they'll remove the lovely patina that gathers in the crevices to enhance the detail of these pieces.) -
