DetailsLarge and lovely German tongs or pastry scissors..Antique pastry / sandwich tongs. These are hardy and beautifully crafted with classic piercings and floral detail.
This fine server is in excellent estate condition with fine soft age acquired rich patina. Crafted of 800/1000 fine silver, it displays lovely craftsmanship in fine silver chasing sporting angels at play on a swing. There are no inscriptions or removals. It is hallmarked, as shown.
These fine antique tongs will make a great addition to any collection of antiques or sterling silver, and a great conversation piece for those holiday meals!
The tongs:
Marked 835, the mark for German silver, an S in a pentagon, and a crest with three crowns
Length: 7 inches
Paddles: 2 inches
Width: 2 inches at the handles when closed
Weight: 64 grams
No monogram. The spots you see on the silver are reflections from the lighting or my camera. This is a lovely piece.
Commensurate with age, the condition is very good to excellent.
A word of caution...some sellers advertise these pieces as 800 silver when they are silver plate. Be sure that you can see the mark.
Since it's solid 800 silver, the standard for European silver, you don't have to worry about the finish wearing off with use. A simple polish removes any accumulating tarnish. (I prefer Hagerty Silversmith's wash with a tarnish preventative. Avoid using silver dips; they'll remove the lovely patina that gathers in the crevices to enhance the detail of these pieces.)
