  Elegant sophistication, yet a little playful
  
  You can tell that I am drawn to the elegance of garnets, first introduced to them by my parents as garnet is my birthstone. These are earrings made with vermeil findings, which have a sterling silver base plated in 14K gold. I have chosen a secure earring for you, one that closes with a spring latch, but I can substitute another open hook type if you prefer. I do have some 14K earrings that I can substitute.   Having recently returned from a European trip, I have other pieces from the original garnet mines of Czechoslovakia, from a revered company called Granát. Earlier made, turn-of-the-century pieces were also made of garnets mined there, and that is where I believe these were made. These gilded sterling silver garnet fittings remind us of treasured antique garnets of days gone by... lovely dark, reflective, faceted garnets.
  
  As seen in the photos, the vermeil CZ earring which I chose for the antique pendants (which is 100 microns of 14K gold over sterling silver) is a beautiful contrast to the dark, beautiful stones. (Other garnet crosses and earrings are in my collection. Use the directory to see those)
  
  I always enjoy knowing the story behind the pieces that I love. Granát is a cooperative in Turnov, a small town founded in 1272 right in the heart of what is called the Bohemian Paradise. The coop was formed 66 years ago when a number of smaller goldsmith shops combined to form a single entity. They now have sole propriety over all garnets mined in the Czech Republic. I love their work and love wearing their pieces. It is said that the garnet was considered to be a talisman and was worn by King David and Medieval warriors into battle...
  
  These earrings are beautiful and unique, becoming heirloom pieces for generations. The Bohemian garnets are faceted; the back of the cross is open in spots to encourage reflection. The camera doesn’t ever catch the magnificence of garnets, dark and lustrous, catching the light in such a beautiful way. So lovely.
