Louis XV Tomato Server & Cream Ladles ~ Antique Sauce Ladles ~ Whiting Sterling Silver

$64.99

  • Details
I love the grace of this pattern and the fluted bowl on the ladle. Very old; the pattern was begun in 1891 and continued under the respected Whiting brand until the company was purchased by Gorham in 1926.

    The ladles:
I have two that appear to have gilded bowls, though much of the gilding is now removed on one of them. (Gilding was not just decorative, but protective, as it gives a layer that resists tarnishing.) One of those gilded bears a lovely monogram that, as many vintage monograms, can be read a couple of ways. My best guess...it's either an F or a T. The other gilded ladle, and the one with the least amount of gilding remaining, is clearly monogrammed with an H. (See the images.) I also have a ladle free of monograms and without gilding.
    Lovely pieces!

    Length: 5 7/8 inches
    Bowl: 2 x 1 3/4 inches
    Weight: 27 grams

    The waffle/tomato server:
These sweet servers are as rare as they are lovely. The two sites that I consult for proper naming had differing opinions as to the use of this piece, but both noted the rare shape.25 I love to imagine the conversations around the tables that used such sweet serving ware.

    Length: 8 inches
    The serving end: 3 x 3 1/2 inches
    Weight: 67 grams
    Mono: WES

Since it's solid silver, you don't have to worry about the finish wearing off with use. A simple polish removes any accumulating tarnish. (I prefer Hagerty Silversmith's wash with a tarnish preventative. Avoid using silver dips; they'll remove the lovely patina that gathers in the crevices to enhance the detail of these pieces.)

Commensurate with age, the condition is very good.
