DetailsIf you have visited throughout my shop, you will see that I am crazy about antique pieces like these. They are delightful to use at your parties, and they’re amazing gifts.
These beautiful tongs come to us from the Netherlands. You’ll see in one of the images the classic lion passant symbol with a Roman numeral II beneath it, which indicates 835 silver purity. In another image, below the boots of one of the friends, you'll see the Minerva (profile of a head).
The details on this server are fantastic. The pastoral scenes of friends gathered around to talk and share each other's comopany...note the details even in the chairs and photos on the wall. Master craftsman made this piece!
They tongs are sturdily made, with tight hinges, always something I seek in tongs. Great for serving anything that requires picking up en mass: asparagus, chicken wings, other vegetables, small pastries or little individual cakes. Lovely.

A word of caution...many sellers advertise these pieces as 835 silver when they are silver plate. Be sure that you can see the mark.
Since it's solid 835 silver, the standard for Dutch silver, you don't have to worry about the finish wearing off with use. A simple polish removes any accumulating tarnish. (I prefer Hagerty Silversmith's wash with a tarnish preventative. Avoid using silver dips; they'll remove the lovely patina that gathers in the crevices to enhance the detail of these pieces.)
No monogram.
Commensurate with age, the condition is excellent.
