Of all of the beautiful garnet crosses in my collection, this is one of my favorites. I love it's diminutive size, and I love the flair on the arms of the cross that give it that Celtic feel. So sweet, so classic. I actually own an antique version of this cross and wore it rarely, so afraid of potential loss. Now that I've found that it can be replaced, it's my go-to. I have included a shot of my personal cross to show you an alternative bail. The original bail has a heft to it; you can request a simple ring if you want less bail and more attention to the cross. Just add a note in your order. Photographed on an 18” chain.
You can tell that I am drawn to the elegance of these garnet crosses, as I now have several in my collection! I love the dark, highly reflective stones... Beautiful creations. See the link below if you'd like to see all of the crosses in my collection.
Having recently returned from a European trip, I bring you this piece from the original garnet mines of Czechoslovakia. Earlier made, turn-of-the-century pieces were also made of garnets mined there. This gilded sterling silver garnet cross reminds us of treasured antique Bohemian garnet necklaces of days gone by... a lovely cross with dark, faceted garnets. As seen in the photos, the vermeil (which is 14K gold over sterling silver) is much brighter in these new pieces. You'll see a sweet pearl in some of the photos. If you like that bit of whimsy, I can add that for you, as well.
I always enjoy knowing the story behind the pieces that I love. Granát is a cooperative in Turnov, a small town founded in 1272 right in the heart of what is called the Bohemian Paradise. The coop was formed 66 years ago when a number of smaller goldsmith shops combined to form a single entity. They now have sole propriety over all garnets mined in the Czech Republic. I love their work and love wearing their pieces. It is said that the garnet was considered to be a talisman and was worn by King David and Medieval warriors into battle...
