Sterling Serving Spoon ~ Azalia by Blackington ~ Sterling Silver Berry Spoon ~ Monogrammed D

$74.00

  • Details
A lovely Sterling Silver, Large Shell, Berry/ Casserole Spoon by Blackinton in a pattern called Azalia (yes, that's how they spelled it!) Azalia is an example of the Art Nouveau patterns of the day, sweetly swirled. This lovely spoon has a very slight gold wash in the bowl, very faint now due to the age of this piece. I have searched for the official name/task of this spoon, but without luck. Blackinton started making this pattern in 1902. The Blackinton name is venerable, as one of its first commissions was to provide flatware to US embassies across the world. Helena, by Blackinton, is a lovely traditional pattern from the turn of the century.
(Photographing silver is so very difficult. Any of the color that you see here is not on the silver; it’s on my ceiling, my phone, the walls.)

This berry spoon, serving spoon, or salad spoon has a gold wash applied to the bowl, typical for berry spoons, to counteract the acids from the berries. The gold wash, due to the age of this piece, is very light now. The spoon is 7.5" in length, is monogrammed D, and weighs 42 grams.

    Markings: Sterling, Pat 1902
    Monogrammed~D.
