DetailsA sweet Sterling Silver sugar tongs, with a leafy tip and the classic Hildesheim rose pattern at the tip. Due to the markings, I believe this to be Italian-made. A very sweet piece. Use them for sugar cubes, olives, or other small pieces. Lovely.
I love giving pieces like this one as fun shower or hostess gifts with a note reflecting on all of the parties that century old pieces have seen. I also love hanging pieces like these on mustard pots that I've re-purposed for sugar cube pots, to the delight of my guests...coffee doesn't get better than this! (See NBJ877)

I find the story of the Hildesheim Rose, after which this piece is patterned, delightful. The oldest known rose alive today (700 years), it has withstood wars and time. Beautiful condition with surface wear consistent with age.
Since it's solid 800 silver, you don't have to worry about the finish wearing off with use. A simple polish removes any accumulating tarnish. (I prefer Hagerty Silversmith's wash with a tarnish preventative. Avoid using silver dips; they'll remove the lovely patina that gathers in the crevices to enhance the detail of these pieces.)
Commensurate with age, the condition is excellent.
