I absolutely love these early 20th century lockets! The gold has a lovely patina, the craftsmanship is both unique and hand-wrought. This Art Deco locket bears maker's marks on the rims of both bezels, but unfortunately, the passage of time has made that indecipherable. I put this piece between 1899-1930.

Art Deco lockets often have a nice heft for their size, likely indicating a heavier gold, and this one is no exception. This locket opens from the side and closes tightly. From within the locket, you can see the edges of the rolled gold exterior, which is indicative of a very well crafted piece bearing a heavier layer of gold.

Some of the photographs show the addition of a pearl. I can add that bit of whimsy, if you'd like, as well as add photos for you.

    The locket: 1 1/4" x 7/8"; 1 3/8" to the bail
    Weight: 6 grams
    Markings: gold filled; C. Q. & R.

The original chain: double twisted cable, 18"; 3 grams

The optional chain: 1.3 mm Italian-made gold filled* chain, delicate looking but strong and highly reflective; you pick the length. I do have a few other vintage gold filled chains; if you’re interested in those, see below.

*As a point of information, always seek gold filled jewelry over gold plated pieces. Gold filled items are legally required to have a heavier coating of gold, 5% or 1/20 gold by weight, typically bonded over another material, in our case jeweler's brass, which is 90% copper and 10% zinc, both safe metals. Gold filled items stand the test of time; gold plated items will not endure.
