Hayward made beautiful lockets in its day. These are prime examples... Please forgive the photography. I tried my best to eliminate chandelier and phone reflections, but didn't always hit that mark. These are lovely. Ignore photography that makes any locket look like it has a flaw. These are in remarkable condition. Like new. All photo frames within the locket are intact. The original base papers and cellulose photo covers look untouched. Remarkably beautiful.
I have two types. Both bear a beautifully etched design on one side, the characteristic pinstripe design of Walter E. Hayward. This side is classically his “back” face, but so often I prefer it. On the "front" face we have two choices, a plain polished face without any etching, and an art deco face with a classic box cartouche in the center for engraving initials.
Hayward, a Massachusetts based jeweler, made this locket between the 1920- 1930s.
Like other gold filled pieces, these have stood the test of time and are in lovely condition. These must have been treasured keepsakes as they reveal very little wear. Truly beautiful and unique.
The original chain: 18” chain with a 12K gold-filled covering. Sturdy and reliable.
The optional chains: Also gold-filled, but you pick the length. My gold-filled chains are flat link chains, .3mm, and closed with a spring ring.
The Locket:
Size: 1” long including bail, 3/4” wide
Hallmark: HAYWARD 1/20-12K GOLD FILLED.
Weight: 5g
*As a point of information, always seek gold filled over gold plated jewelry. Gold filled items are legally required to have a heavier coating of 14K gold, 5% or 1/20 gold by weight, typically bonded over another material, most often jeweler's brass, which is 90% copper and 10% zinc, both safe metals. Gold filled items stand the test of time; gold plated items will not endure. I have gold filled filigreed hoops from my teens that my daughters and I still wear!
~ I can put images within the locket for you. If you'd like that option, Please convo me for the time needed to complete your order. You'll need to send a jpeg of your images. Original jpegs give the best results. Don't worry about the size of the image; I can adjust it at my end.
~ I can put this on other chains or other lengths, per your preference. I can create a linked chain without delay. A longer gold filled box chain would take extra time.
