Pastry tongs are such an elegant addition to a table setting...I have two like this:

    The first:
These tongs are fashioned by Christoph Bach, makers mark CB, for the Silberwarenfabrik Christoph Bach, of Ellmendingen, near Pforzheim, Germany, established in the early part of the 20th century. German 835 pastry server, c. 1920. A great wedding gift or special piece for any silver lover. These are fashioned in his leaf pattern, which I've only acquired a couple of times in the years I've sought his work.

    The second:
Offered at a reduced price, but identical to the first with the exception that the tongs contain a little more silver by weight. These lack the CB mark, but have the same quality mark of 835.

Lovely pastry tongs for a bridal luncheon or baby shower, and then a delightful keepsake for the hostess. I love pieces like this! So rare, so delightful. I use them for salads, pastries, serving wings, on veggie trays, always to the delight of my guests.

    Christoph Bach Tongs
    Length: 5 1/2 inches
    Paddles: 1 1/2 x 2 3/8 inches
    Weight: 26 grams
Material: 835 silver (the European standard for sterling)
    Markings: 835 CB

    Tongs without the CB mark
    Length: 5 1/2 inches
    Paddles: 1 1/2 x 2 3/8 inches
    Weight: 28 grams
Material: 835 silver (the European standard for sterling)
    Markings: 835 CB

A word of caution...some sellers advertise these pieces as silver when they are silver plate. Be sure that you can see the mark.

Since it's solid 835 silver, you don't have to worry about the finish wearing off with use. A simple polish removes any accumulating tarnish. (I prefer Hagerty Silversmith's wash with a tarnish preventative. Avoid using silver dips; they'll remove the lovely patina that gathers in the crevices to enhance the detail of these pieces.)

    No monogram.

Commensurate with age, the condition is very good to excellent.
