Lovely and unique, these serving pieces hearken back to a stately time when set tables were showpieces...

I love using tongs like these to serve salads, meats, pasta, anything from a charcuterie tray. They make the serving delightful and I always get comments from my guests.

Styled in the a Hildesheimer pattern, this is a classic piece by German silversmith Antiko, a name formed from the words 'ANTIque' and 'KOhlbecker'. Heinz Kohlbecker established his business, Kohlbecker Silberwarenfabrik, at Pforzheim in 1946. Today the silver maker works in Birkenfeld, Germany.

Two tongs, one with a box:
    Length: 6 1/2"
    Width: 1 3/4"
    Weight: 53 grams
    Markings: A W M, 800

If you’re shopping around, watch out for Antiko pieces, this company also made silver plate. The pieces shown here are 800 silver, not silver plate. Antiko silver plate is typically marked 100, as are other European silver pieces.

The story of the Hildesheim Rose, after which these pieces are patterned, delights me. The oldest known rose alive today, it has withstood wars and time. Rising 69 feet at the Hildesheim Cathedral, it's an inspirational point for the German nation. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thousand-year_Rose

I have guessed at the age of these pieces, but they are similar to others I own from this period. All herald from Germany. I have listed these together to save you on shipping. If you want just a couple of these, send me a note so that I can handle the shipping for you.

Since it's solid 800 silver, the standard for German silver, you don't have to worry about the finish wearing off with use. A simple polish removes any accumulating tarnish. (I prefer Hagerty Silversmith's wash with a tarnish preventative. Avoid using silver dips; they'll remove the lovely patina that gathers in the crevices to enhance the detail of these pieces.)

    No monograms.

Commensurate with age, the condition of each of these pieces is very good to excellent.
