Simply lovely. And two of the largest silver boxes I've found...Engraved, hinged sterling pill boxes, perfect for meds, gum, or mints to be stashed away in a safe spot.

My first thought? …Sir Walter Raleigh would be pleased with these piece…Then Pierre, a delightful customer, pointed out the connection of the first to a famous painting. The scene is a rendition of Rembrandt's painting, The Nightwatch, painted in 1632 during the Dutch golden age. See the last photo for that masterpiece.

    NBJ864R:
This is a very nice antique 833 silver pill box from the 1930s depicting Rembrandt's Nightwatch. Since it's 833 silver, its original beauty can be returned with a simple polish. It will never rust or degrade. Its clasp is secure without being difficult to open, a charming piece for all of us who like to keep additional meds handy. (And SO much more fun than those ugly plastic caddies!) Gift wrapped.

    Length: 2.15 inches
    Width: 1.75 inch
    Height: .375 inch
    Weight: 29 grams
Markings: The lion passant with the '2' beneath it indicates a minimum of .833 sterling; the "V" dates this to 1930; also stamped is NIO or OIN (depending upon your perspective), which may be a maker's mark.

    NBJ864:
A pub scene of soldiers perhaps playing cards. Same silver contact and same uses.

    Length: 2 5/16 inches
    Width: 1 3/4 inch
    Height: 1/2 inch
    Weight: 30 grams
Markings: The lion passant with the '2' beneath it indicates a minimum of .833 sterling; the helmet with the letter H indicates the Arnhem assay office; the "Z" dates this to 1934; the first is a maker's stamp that is unreadable.

Since theses pieces are solid 833 silver, Dutch sterling silver, you don't have to worry about the finish wearing off with use. A simple polish removes any accumulating tarnish. I don't even trouble with a cloth. A little polish on my thumb cleans everything to sparking new. (I prefer Hagerty Silversmith's wash with a tarnish preventative. Avoid using silver dips; they'll remove the lovely patina that gathers in the crevices to enhance the detail of these pieces.)
