DetailsSometimes you find extra special tongs that are extremely well made, such as these. Made by Bruckmann and Söhne, whose work is highly collectible and generally far more expensive. These tongs are not only decorative on the "top" side that I present first in the photos, but the reverse side is equally lovely, and differently patterned. These tongs are sturdily made, with tight hinges. (It's sometimes difficult to to find tongs with this degree of hardiness.)
Great for serving anything that requires picking up en masse: asparagus, meats, other vegetables, small pastries or little individual cakes. Truly lovely. (I enjoy giving these away as special gifts to brides-to-be.)
The tongs:
Marked 800, with the standard German crescent and crown and the winged bird of Bruckmann & Söhne.

The scissors:
6 inches long x 2 inches wide at the finger holes
A word of caution...some sellers advertise these pieces as 800 silver when they are silver plate or possibly Alpaca silver, which contains no sterling. Be sure that you can see the mark.
Since it's solid 800 silver, the standard for continental silver, you don't have to worry about the finish wearing off with use. A simple polish removes any accumulating tarnish. (I prefer Hagerty Silversmith's wash with a tarnish preventative. Avoid using silver dips; they'll remove the lovely patina that gathers in the crevices to enhance the detail of these pieces.)
No monogram.
Commensurate with age, the condition is very good to excellent.
