$185.99

  • Details
Salt cellars are such an elegant addition to any table setting, especially at the holidays, and this sweet double salt cellar is especially lovely. This was fashioned by but were likely fashioned in the early part of the 20th century. Marked 800, the European standard for silver, Italian by design, c. 1920.

GEMELLI is a word that depict "twins: in Italy. Twin salt cellars, twins back to back in outline on the center back of the cupid... darling representation of the cupid (putti) blessing the fishing, with the shell motif and the cupid raising a ribbon in celebration.

    The double salt cellar:
    Length: 3 7/8 inches x 2 inches
    Weight: 26 grams
Markings: (Inside a polygon, Star S43AR) 800 (800 silver is the European standard for sterling) on the ribbon held by the cherub
Made in Arezzo, Italy, (AR) possibly by MONTICINI CORRADO (43)

Since it's solid 800 silver, you don't have to worry about the finish wearing off with use. A simple polish removes any accumulating tarnish. (I prefer Hagerty Silversmith's wash with a tarnish preventative. Avoid using silver dips; they'll remove the lovely patina that gathers in the crevices to enhance the detail of these pieces.)

    No monogram.

Commensurate with age, the condition is very good to excellent.
