• Details
  This beautiful piece came from a Villanova, Pennsylvania, estate. It’s a beautiful and quite an usual Dutch server made of 835 silver.
  
  There are many theories as to the purpose is for these pieces, ranging from serving meat (so the juice pours through) to serving vegetables, to serving pies or cakes. This example has an elaborate tableau of a group of men socializing. It is in excellent condition and nicely hallmarked, the second standard for purity ensuring 835. Victorian silver is simply lovely, and this piece bespeaks the craftsmanship. Very lovely.

  Markings: 835 (see second standard, the Dutch lion above the image with the face...the classic lion passant symbol with a Roman numeral II beneath it, which indicated 835 silver purity; the Minerva(head) with the letter A indicating made in Amsterdam; a lower case "q" for )being made in 1976.
  
  Since it's solid 835 silver, the standard for Dutch silver, you don't have to worry about the finish wearing off with use. A simple polish removes any accumulating tarnish. (I prefer Hagerty Silversmith's wash with a tarnish preventative. Avoid using silver dips; they'll remove the lovely patina that gathers in the crevices to enhance the detail of these pieces.)
  
  No monogram.
  
  Commensurate with age, the condition is excellent.
