  • Details
If you are a tea lover, this is a beautiful way to begin your day. Think Downton Abbey elegance with silver lovely, detailed, and made in the US.

This is an antique sterling silver tea strainer made by the Simons Brothers Silver Company begun by George Washington Simons in 1839 in Philadelphia.

This is a lovely little ornate tea strainer meant to dangle beneath the neck of the teapot. Assuming the tea leaves have been tossed within the pot, as the server pours the tea, this strainer catches all the leaves before they enter the cup.

The strainer is approximately 2 3/4" in width, 1 1/4 inches in depth, and weighs 24 grams. The maker's mark of an S within a shield, along with the word "sterling" and "320" are visible on the underside of the strainer. We have dated it by the decor.

Since it's solid sterling silver, you don't have to worry about the finish wearing off with use. A simple polish removes any accumulating tarnish. (I prefer Hagerty Silversmith's wash with a tarnish preventative. Avoid using silver dips; they'll remove the lovely patina that gathers in the crevices to enhance the detail of these pieces.)

    No monogram.

Commensurate with age, the condition is excellent.
